A Moment of Clarity
The raindrops seem to be in a race with time,
Cascading down the surface until it’s time to bind,
bind once again becoming a part of a cycle that has no end.
There is one on its own clock,
longingly sliding in no rush to rejoin the fray,
almost as if it wants to stay away.
Stay on its own, exploring the new.
In some ways, this raindrop is you.
Slow and timid,
weightless and pure,
flowing and free.
Poet reflection: Writing this poem was like exhaling for the first time in a long time. It made me realize how easy it is to be so wrapped up in life, love, careers, and family that we never take the time to slow down and enjoy the pleasure of just being. I heard a quote that really stuck with me. It goes, "Life isn't about how many breaths you take, it's about the moments that take your breath away." If we are always trying to beat time at its own race before we know it, the moments that mattered would have gone, and the only proof you have is the air in your lungs. Choose presence over pressure.
